Soju is without a doubt the most popular spirit here in Korea, in fact it’s actually the most consumed spirit in the world, even beating out whisky and vodka. Personally I’ve never been a huge fan. Sure it’s cheap as chips and flavourless, but I always tend to get pretty bad hangovers from it. It’s also generally drunk by itself instead of in cocktails which are my preferred method of consuming alcohol.

However, a few weeks ago, the soju makers decided to get with the times and start cranking out flavoured soju. Vodka has been at it for years, and even beer is in on the action, so enter citron soju. Citron or yuja(유자) as it’s known here in Korea is a fruit which is kind of a cross between an orange and a lemon. The fruit itself doesn’t yield much juice but the skin is used to make teas and drinks which are quite delicious.

This new citron soju is actually pretty damn tasty and is very drinkable by itself, in fact too drinkable. I ended up finishing the bottle in a single afternoon. I made three cocktails using this new soju. 2 super easy ones you can make at any convenience store and one Mojito which requires a little more ingredient-wise.
