As I told you on Monday, this week I am having some fun in the sun in Phuket. Today is my birthday and I’m turning 32, which is a little bit scary, so to deal with it I though being pampered in 5 star luxury while medicating myself with delicious tropical cocktails would just about soothe my nerves. Luckily for me and my bank balance I was invited to stay at the brand new Dream Phuket Hotel and Spa. The beautiful hotel is located on the North west coast of the island close to Layan beach. With several airlines now offering direct flights from Seoul to Phuket, it was amazingly easy to get here, just a hop, a skip, a plane, and a taxi ride away.

We arrived very late in the evening and thankfully we were greeted with cold compressed towels and a welcome cocktail, however all I could think of was getting into a big soft white king sized bed. The room in no way disappointed, the bed was huge, as was the bath tub which I plan to make serious use out of.  I’m staying in a deluxe king size room which start from 3,500 THB per night. The brand new stylish room was designed to include every amenity you could ever need like a charging pack for all our electronic devices. After a a quick rain shower I got into my robe and pulled those black out blinds and got straight into bed.

After the perfect nights sleep I awoke early and since my parents weren’t up yet, thought I would use the gym, ha ha no really. Now the summer is almost here, I unfortunately have to reveal large portions of my un-toned flesh and can no longer cover them up with skinny jeans, so light workouts must be done, and thankfully the gym provided me with everything I needed.

Work out complete I headed for the breakfast buffet. Like most high end hotel breakfast buffets, there are plenty of options, fresh fruit and my favourite bircher muesli, full English, egg and waffle making stations and Asian goodies like fried rice and dim sum. After being so good and working out I really thought I deserved a treat so decided to try a little bit of everything. I especially loved their fantastic ice coffee.

Breakfast was enjoyed at Trilogy restaurant by the gorgeous lagoon like swimming pool. I had at least three rounds of breakfast before finally making my way over to the bed like cabanas. The weather was insatiably hot so a dip in the pool was needed before relaxing on a sunbed with a cocktail in one hand my book in the other.

All that relaxing had taken it out of me so I took my dear but weary mother off to really relax in the on site Sanctuary Spa. Massages are ubiquitous in Phuket and it seems as though there is place offering them on every corner. However not all spas are made equal, and this one is absolutely divine. I enjoyed a 30 minute facial (1,500 THB) then a 30 minute neck and shoulder massage (1,200 THB). In a private room all to myself it was the ideal way to unwind, by the time my lovely masseuse was finished I was practically in a blissed out coma.

After our massages we decided to check out the beach club in the afternoon, which is just a short 5 minute shuttle bus ride away. The beach club is pure Ibiza chic, big white bed sun loungers everywhere and a DJ on the decks banging out the tunes all day and night long.

We relaxed even more over copious amounts of cocktails from the swim up bar and even managed to catch the traditional Thai fire show at sunset. All in all it was the perfect day and I can’t wait to repeat it all again tomorrow.
