NY Burger & Bagel

As you may know my search for a good burger in this city has been relentless, and I tried dozens of places before finally finding my favourite  at Itaewon the Burger. If you ever think that my blog is always on the positive side and never offers bad reviews, that is because it is carefully curated and I only share my favourites or those I find to have value in their uniqueness or locations . After expressing my disappointment with so many of the burger joints that I tried and didn’t blog about on my Instagram account I was reached out to by many other burger aficionados who felt the same way I did. One of these was NY Burger and Bagel in Gangnam, which the owner Mark declared to be the best burger in Seoul, I snorted with derision as I had heard that plenty of times before, but when he kindly invited me and a few friends to give them a try with no obligation to write a review, I figured why not. The restaurant is located right by Gangnam station, which is really a bit of a black hole when it comes to good eating, as the exorbitant rents have pretty much left us with a load of old crap, so for that alone I figured it would make an interesting post if the claims were true.

The restaurant is located a couple of streets back from the main drag, just far enough to get away from the hustle and bustle of Gangnam life. The restaurant is adorably cute with a white facade, faux grass and some tables outside. Once the spring comes around this will be a prime piece of real estate to brunch in, but since it was -6 we favoured a table indoors. The Inside is fairly small with a large semi open kitchen taking up a good third of the space but was still ample enough for me and my crew and a large table of office workers.

As we were guests of the proprietor he kindly asked if he could select his favourite items for us to try. Being a pretty agreeable bunch we were cool and the gang with that and we kindly accepted a delicious glass of mulled wine while we waited. Unfortunately the mulled wine is a season item but I was assured that it is going to be replaced by a cocktail that is equally delicious.  The first burger to arrive was the Once in a Bleu Moon (11,500). I’m a blue cheese queen so couldn’t resist the lure of a burger topped with blue cheese and crispy bacon. The beef burger was cooked to medium, and was well seasoned, while the bun was soft and and buttery. The burgers here don’t come served with anything, which is kind of a pet peeve of mine (fries are mandatory in a burger experience, not optional) so we ordered a portion of parmesan garlic fries (8,000). This was a large portion that we shared between four of us. It also came with a fresh herb ranchy type dip called the green goddess which we were all fighting over until it it was gone. Like most burger places in Korea they also do 1/2 sets of fries with a drink for 5,500.

 

The second burger we tried was the The Wasaaabi??? (11,500). A beef burger topped with pepperjack cheese, grilled onion, shiitake mushroom, and wasabi mayo. As much as I love wasabi I was first a little skeptical about this meaty treat but it ended up being the unanimous favourite of the day. Beef and wasabi is surprisingly a match made in heaven, and after consideration, it being so close to mustard, I can see why. The wasabi was mixed with mayo so it wasn’t at all overbearing and you could still taste the flavour of the beef, and the shiitake mushrooms cheese and grilled onions. It was a total Mmm experience. My only regret was that I was sharing it with three other people.

 

The last burger we tried was the Bubba Gump (22,000). The Forrest Gump namesake is topped with blackened cajun shrimp, american cheese, salad and cajun mayo. It’s pretty steep at 22,000 but hey it’s Gangnam and there are plenty of more reasonably priced options on the menu. I really liked this one, as I was loving the cajun mayo. Honestly I don’t know if I really needed the shrimp, I was more than happy to eat them but I think the same burger without them would have been just as tasty and a hell of a lot cheaper. We finished up with a drinkable dessert in the form of their Peanut Butter Milkshake(5,500). This was indescribably rich and ice- creamy and every sip was totally nutillicious. This was the thick shake that I have been longing for, for quite some time and we all agreed it was the perfect way to end the meal.

Overall I really enjoyed the burgers at NY Burger and Bagel, the Wasabi burgers gave me the Mmm factor I was looking for and I’m thrilled to have a good place to eat near Gangnam station. The menu is quite large so if burgers aren’t your bag there is also a breakfast menu and some other popular NY style lunch items that the owner missed from living in New York. When the weather turns warmer than this will be an ideal spot for a weekend brunch and I’ll certainly be giving them another try once spring rolls around.

Cafe L’Assemblage

I love a good natter over a cake and a coffee. It’s one of life’s greatest joys. Luckily for us gossip girls, Seoul is filled to the brim with lovely coffee shops, and you are never more than a stones throw away from the nearest one. Before Christmas I was lucky enough to be invited to Cafe L’Assemblage for a meeting. I had walked past this Garosugil cafe dozens of times in the past and looked longingly at the beautiful pastries in the window, but always feared it was far too fancy for the likes of me so never ventured inside. If I had ever had the balls to walk in, I would have noted that the inside is just as fancy as the outside. The whole cafe exudes an opulence that is ten a penny in Europe but not so much in the ultra modern and sleek cafes in Korea.The cafe has been part of the local landscape since the 90s, but has changed hands several times over the last few years. It now belongs to the original owner’s daughter, which I thought to be an utterly enchanting story.

Since I was meeting with the owner on a separate project we decided to make the most of her generosity and try as many of their cakes as we could fit in our bellies. One of which was their signature Golden Cheese Tarts. My god are these babies addictively good. You may remember that towards the end of last year I had a give away of the golden cheese tarts, and this was where I was first lucky enough to try them. They are a touch pricier at (3,000) each rather than 2,800 for the take out stores, but I think you’ll agree it is certainly worth the 200 won extra to sit and enjoy your tart in such a beautiful cafe. If you have yet to try one yet, the cheese tart is made up of a very crumbly and biscuity pastry which melts in the mouth and has a very similar texture to a graham cracker crust you usually find on a cheesecake. The filling is rich and creamy thanks to the French soft cheese and has just a slightly sour note at the end. If you are a baked cheesecake fan then you need to try this delightful mini tart version asap because they are absolutely scrumptious.

As well as the exceptionally yummy golden cheese tarts, we also tried The Earl Gray Crepe Cake (7,000). I do love a good crepe cake, even more so when I haven’t had to spend hours over a hot stove making one myself. This English tea version was absolutely lighter than air with a delicious flavour of Earl Gray swirled in at the end. I always thought that crepe cakes would be too filling with their many layers but I’m always amazed by how many pieces I can eat. You can’t really tell from the picture, but this crepe cake was topped with a sweet and flavourful layer of earl grey frosting which really intensified the cakes overall flavour.

Lastly we tried the Orange and and White Chocolate Tart (8,500). Orange and chocolate is always a classic combination, just think about a Jaffa Cake or a Terry’s Chocolate Orange. But white chocolate and orange are a match made in heaven that often gets overlooked in favour of milk or dark. The tart itself was exquisite, in the way that only French pastries can be. The pastry was crisp and biscuity. While the orange topping was juicy and sweet with just a hint of citrus sour. It paired well with the rich and creamy filling underneath. I loved this tart so much and could eat a slice every day for the rest of my life, it was sinfully good.

Overall I found Cafe L’Assemblage to be the most delightful of spaces. It is the perfect spot to to fritter away an afternoon gossiping with your friends. The cakes and pastries were exceedingly good, and very well priced for the area. Unlike many dessert cafes in the city, they tasted as good as they looked, and I wouldn’t hesitate to pop in for another dessert next time I am in Sinsa.

Normal by Ryunique

Last week I was invited back to Normal in Sinsa to try their new quick and simple menu by Ryunique. If you read this blog religiously you will know that I enjoyed a sumptuous 16 course meal at Ryunique earlier this year, then another fabulous but slightly less grand meal at new sister restaurant Normal. The team behind the two restaurants are now offering patrons the chance to experience the magic of the food you’d enjoy at Ryunique at Normal, for those who have neither the time or money for the 16 or 22 course extravaganza at the original location.

The new menu offers a Quick Ryunique for 60,000 per person which includes 7 different courses, or a Keep Ryuinque for 80,000 that is 9 courses. As we were a pair, we decided to get one version of each. Personally I felt the quick menu was filling enough by itself and after enjoying all 7 courses I was stuffed. On the back of the menu is the list of ingredients used in each dish and where in Korea they can be sourced. I really appreciated this extra level of care, and it clear that Chef Ryu and his team are incredibly passionate about what they do. Since it was a special occasion and the meal was on the house we split a bottle of Biblia Chora (60,000), a Greek sauvignon blanc. I’m not really an oenophile but I know what I like and this was delicious and paired perfectly with the first five courses.

We started off as you do with any classy dinner with an amuse bouche, or three in the case of the larger meal. The first of which was my favourite a Jerusalem artichoke soup with a sous vide egg, artichoke chips, shavings of aged chicken breast and beetroot powder. As well as looking stunning and incredibly beautiful, the soup itself was like silk running down my throat, and it got even more lustrous when we found a sous vide egg yolk in the middle of the bowl. The shavings of chicken added a saltiness while the artichoke chips provided the crunch. All in all an incredible dish and a wonderful way to use the in season and overlooked ‘pig potatoes’.

After one or two more amuse dishes we moved on to the Fois Gras Blini. It was described to us as a mini take on the BLT sandwich. Fois gras was piled upon prosciutto, tomato, cucumber and a sweet brioche style bread and served with a lemon sour cream. This was such a delightful and playful dish, that was as tasty as it was cute and was one of the extra courses we received on the larger 80,000 menu.

One of the main draws of eating at Ryunique is the fact that every dish has a  theatrical element that is administered by your server. One of the dishes that stood out most to me was the Butternut Squash soup with Confit Duck Leg. We were brought our bowls while our server told us what we were eating then she then poured out our rich and creamy soup, then added a few drops of anti ageing oil (toasted duck fat). This gave the dish a wonderful  nuttiness, which balanced with the salty and gamey flavour of the duck, and the richness of the cream cheese filled ravioli was just heavenly. Personally I couldn’t get enough of this soup and would eat it for the rest of my days. However my companion said it could be considered to be a bit on the sweet side by some but we both enjoyed it immensely.

The first and star player of our main courses was the Pork Jowl with Apple and Dashi. Pork and apple is such a classic combination but this version was elevated by the peppery and slightly bitter mustard leaves, and the addition of dashi and crushed peanuts. The pork itself was was raised in Jirisan, and had the most wonderful flavour. It was in some ways a very simple dish that let the ingredients speak for themselves without adding any extra bells and whistles.

If I talked about every dish we enjoyed that night, we would be here all night but here is a little amalgamation of the best of the rest. From top left Roast duck with orange sauce, Tomatoes bubble salad, beef tartar and cream cheese ravioli, all of which I ate and wrote about on my last visit. For dessert we were presented an enchanting woodland scene. The star of which was a chocolate ball filled with the most sumptuous raspberry sorbet. A small chocolate log, and candy floss cloud were also served on a specially made wood like plate.  After dessert came a round of tea and coffee which is included in the set meal, along with a chocolate truffle which I’m not sure how we finished after eating so much but I guess we found room somewhere.

Once again I was bowled over by the tastes and flavours that Chef Ryu presented in the most fabulous way. Some of the dishes I’d tried before but they still astounded me and I always feel in awe by the Chef and his team’s talent. I also want to mention that the service was attentive and knowledgeable from the outset and throughout. Good service in this city is a rarity, at least in the places I can afford to eat in. Personally I’ve always though that good service is the easiest way to turn a good meal into a great one so they deserve some recognition for that too. If you are looking for a place to eat that is going to impress without breaking the bank you’d be hard pushed to find better than Normal and if you really want to dazzle your date for a one off experience that could only be described as magical then head to Ryuinque.

Cafe Able

It has been rather a long time since I posted a new brunch place, in fact I cant even remember the last time I shared one. Although that doesn’t mean I haven’t been out there looking, I just haven’t found one worth sharing until now. The search for new brunch spots is never ending, but if you want to reap the rewards you have to put in the work. This place was recommended to me by my friend John Kim so I have to say a big thanks to him because it is an excellent find.

Cafe Able is located just off the end of Garosu-gil in a renovated two story house The whole concept of the place is farm to table freshness and the serve organic fruit and veggies some of which are grown on their own farm. The restaurant itself is huge and very light with a real country chic warmth throughout. I adored all the jars and baskets of jams and candles that they had used to decorate the place. They also had the nicest smelling toilet I’ve ever been in, kind of like a vanilla latte.

The Cafe Able menu is mostly made of sandwiches and salads but also has half a dozen brunch items. One of them being Eggs Florentine (15,000) which is my favourite brunch dish of all time. This one was served in frying pan which was utterly adorable. My two poached eggs were sat atop a thick and creamy sauce which was strewn with potatoes, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, asparagus, and bacon. It also came with two pieces of toasted whole grain bread. I adored this dish, it was just so warm and comforting. I lapped up every bite but didn’t feel in the slightest bit heavy afterwards, it was the ideal brunch dish.

My dining companion opted for the Eggs Benedict (14,000). He chose the ham version which I think he regretted once he saw it and wishes he had gone for the salmon instead. The ham was kind of a round slab, and not really what he was hoping for. The hollandaise was also rather thin and there wasn’t much of it, though I’m sure you could ask for more. The poached eggs themselves were perfect and came on a quinoa bread which I have never tried before. It was slightly sweet and has a very soft texture. The fried potatoes on the side were also very tasty and a small salad. Not the best Benedict as the ham and hollandaise let it down. The salmon version might be worth a try though.

Booze wise there are no cocktails (boo) but they do have an ample selection of wine and beer (yay). The star of their drinks menu are their huge selection of homemade juices and teas, which seemed to be very popular judging by the other tables. The juices are not cheap at 9,000 each but they are made with organic fruits which somewhat justifies the price tag. We decided to splurge and get one each. My dining companion got the Red Field (apple and beet) while I got the Green Refresh (grape, kale, and cucumber). Both were delicious, and made a nice treat. I make juices a lot at home so it’s unusual for me to buy one, but I was staying off the booze and figured I needed a reward. If you want to drink, bottles of wine start at 23,000. They had a couple of sparkling options so I’m sure they could make you a fantastic freshly squeezed orange juice if you cant live without that mimosa.

Overall I really enjoyed Cafe Able and I thought my dish was perfect. Seeing what others ordered around us the french toast and the English breakfast looked great too. If they had a cocktail menu I’d be here very week. The space itself is really cool and a wonderful ambience. Sinsa is also a great area for wandering around and walking off your lunch after, so if you are looking for somewhere to refuel after a spot of shopping then this is it.

Fire Bell

Whenever anyone makes a restaurant recommendation to me, I add it to a list on my phone, and Fire Bell has been on that list for well over a year and a half. The south of the river burger joint is widely regarded as one of, if not the best burger in Seoul. Its not that I haven’t wanted to try it, its just that it is all the way down in Daechi-dong and until now I’ve just been to lazy to drag my fat arse over there.

Well as luck would have it, TFB was taking part in a charity soccer match in that very area. I don’t usually give him much support in his sporting endeavours, so I thought it was about time I stood by my man, and if I managed to get a burger at the same time, well that was killing two birds with one stone.

As the name suggests Fire bell has a kind of fire station theme going on. The place is completely decked out in red and white check, all the burgers are aptly named within the theme and there are tonnes of cute and quirky decorating touches like this adorable break in case of fire, toasted marshmallow kit.

As you may or may not know I don’t really enjoy the patties of american burgers. For me they just seem lacking. I am looking for a burger that makes me go Mmmm when I bite into it, a burger so tasty I have to buy another one straight after. Not a tall order you would imagine, but so far I’ve yet to find a 10/10 burger here in Seoul. After perusing the menu I opted for the Rookie (7,000). I decided to stick with the classic so I could really rate the burger for itself and not its toppings. First things first, the bun was delicious, by far the best bun tried, the cheese and grilled onions were as expected but just something was a bit lacking in the patty itself. Although for the price, and someone less picky than I, a solid choice.

We also gtr a second burger, the Call 911(9,000) which was topped with american cheese, spicy sauce, tomato, jalapeno, and lettuce and I cant say that I enjoyed it. Even TFB, who likes hot sauce on everything, found the heat to completely overwhelm any taste of the burger. It was a poor choice on his part, also mine, as I rarely let him choose for himself and I wish I had forced him into ordering one of the others instead. We made this one a set for an extra 4,000 which is incredibly reasonable. We got a half portion of twisty fries which I thought made a nice change and a sprite. I wasn’t really in the mood for a milkshake that day, but the menu had a nice selection and looked pretty good from what i could see.

Although I wasn’t that crazy for the burgers here, I still wanted to share it as hey, it’s very well priced and there really inst a lot of competition in the area. It’s similar to Brooklyn Burger and Gilbert Burger. Gilbert burger is easily my favourite of the three, though I found Fire Bell to be better than Brooklyn. And price wise its the best of the bunch. I can’t say it was worth the trip across town for me, but it seems as though I’m incredibly hard to please when it comes to burgers, and I’d more than likely go again if I was in the neighbourhood.

WinK Kitchen & Taphouse

A few weeks ago I was invited back to WinK  to come and try their new menu. It had been some time since my last visit so I was curious to see what was new.  The Gyodae pub has been open for over a year and a half now and they have recently hired a new chef who has revamped their menu. While they are still serving their popular classic dishes, he has also added his own personal flair and flavour to the menu.

One of the new dishes is the Spicy Pork Belly Sandwich (9,500). I love a slab of juicy pork between my lips so really couldn’t resist giving this a try. Housed in a long soft roll was a a melt in the mouth piece of pork belly that was soft as butter. This is very important when putting it in a sandwich as you don’t want to get through the bread and have trouble biting through the meat. The Thai glaze smothering the meat is advertised as spicy and it certainly hits that note. Inside the sandwich were pickled radish and carrots, cucumber, and cilantro which provided a sour and refreshing crunch to cut through the spice. If the sauce was slightly less spicy this would be a an absolute knock out for me.

Since it first opened, WinK has always been popular for its burger selection.  All the burgers are on the hearty side and very filling and I ordered the biggest of the bunch The Mega Burger (14,000), which kind of made me feel like I was at the Peach Pitt in Beverly Hills 90210. This burger has everything but the kitchen sink on it but it really works. Housed inside the buttered bun is a 150g whole beef patty, pulled pork, several kinds of cheese, egg, avocado, lettuce onions, tomato, and mayo. Burger purists may not agree but I loved the combination of flavours, and any bite that included that oozy egg yolk was a winner for me.

Also on the menu are plenty of topped fries, and our favourite was the Loaded Fries (8,900). Although nothing groundbreaking in culinary terms, the fries topped with cheese, bacon and sour cream were quite hard to resist, and we didn’t leave many on the plate.

As with any good pub, the drinks remain cheap and cheerful. They have a variety of Platinum ales on tap and plenty of mixed cocktails all ranging from 5,000 – 9,000 won. The lemon drop was probably my favourite whereas my companions enjoyed the mocha stout. If you live south of the river and are looking for a good time, it is certainly worth stopping by.

Food Week Korea 2016 – A World of Flavour

It’s that time of year again, its Food Week! As usual it’s being held at Coex on November 2nd – 5th 2016. This years theme is A World of Flavour, so expect to see an International flair at this years event.  This years event is set to be even bigger than last years, which boasted 900 hundred different exhibits, stalls, and manufacturers selling their wares to 80,000 visitors.

This years Food Week 2016 will host a number of international guests including a Turkish pavilion, Chinese pavilion, and an ASEAN Fair dedicated to ASEAN local food. Most of the stalls will be giving out out free samples or some kind of promotional goodies. There will also be a whole host of cooking demonstrations and competitions to watch.

For those with a passion for cakes, pies, and baked goodies, the Seoul International Bakery Fair will
be held alongside Food Week Korea. There will be plenty of opportunities to satisfy your sweet tooth
and pick up any baking or cookware you’ve been after.

I have been to the exhibit the past few years in a row and there is always something interesting to see, buy,  or taste. If you are a newbie to Food Week, expect to see booze, baked goods, machinery, packaging, ingredients, cooking competitions and so much more. So if your idea of a good time involves walking around a supermarket devouring as many free samples as possible, then Food Week is the exhibit for you. Just be sure to go hungry!

I’m not usually a huge lover of pancakes, but I have always heard good things about The Pancake Epidemic (TPE), so when I was in the area with friends last week we figured it was worth a try. Shake Shack

Yesterday New York’s Shake Shack opened its very first branch here in Korea. The launch store is located on the main Gangnam street between Gangnam Station and and Sinnonhyeon Station. The burger joint is already insanely popular in New York and creates all kinds of crazy queues there too. When I visited NY last year  I waited in line for half an hour myself, despite the fact there were at least half a dozen locations.

If there’s one thing that Koreans love to do, it’s queue up in line for food, so unsurprisingly the queues were epicly long. The place doesn’t actually open until 11am but I know there were people waiting in line for it from 7 am onward, now that’s what I call dedication to burgers. What is most surprising is that I joined that queue, even more so if you consider the fact I wasn’t all that fussed by the burgers the first time I tried them. However as much as I hate to queue I really wanted to give it a try before my vacation next week. I’d been keeping an eye on the food board groups so I knew what I was letting myself in for, and when my friend arrived at 3:30pm she was told the wait would be 2 hours long, which was just about manageable. The staff were really well prepared, they were handing out umbrellas and bottles of water, which I thought was quite sweet, they also had rock, scissors, paper games for free promotional goodies.

I finally got to Shake Shack around 4pm, my friend had already been waiting for about 30 minutes at that point, but once I joined the queue seemed to go pretty fast. As a rule I absolute loathe queues, so I brought supplies to keep me happy, namely vodka. It may have been a scorching 33 degrees, but with my Berry Moscow Mule in hand I was refreshed and having a good time.

The menu is the same as in the states, but with a few Korean extras, thankfully no kimchi burgers but I’m sure it is only a matter of time. There are burgers, hot dogs, shakes, concretes, local beers and wine. The menu is in Korean, but they also have English versions too. I also thought its pretty cool that they don’t put a limit on how much you can order. We saw dozens of people leaving with armfuls of take out bags, so that may be another option for you if you can’t face the line. I’ve also heard you can get it delivered via concierge serves like Atlas.

There are six different burgers on the menu priced between 5,400 – 12,900, thought the pricier ones are all doubles which I thought was very reasonable. There is also virtually no mark up on the prices compared to the states which is another plus factor. I think everyone and their dog has complained about burger prices over here so that was a nice surprise. By the time we got to the front we ended up ordering three different burgers, my favourite was the Smoke Shack (8,900), which was topped with apple wood smoked bacon, cherry pepper shake sauce, and american cheese. I love a good BBQ bacon cheese burger, and this was pretty great, no Mmm factor but it was a solid 8/10. I’d have liked a touch more seasoning in the burger itself but overall I enjoyed it. Though next time I would probably try adding the extra patty.

My bestie got the Shroom Burger (9,400), a portebello mushroom stuffed with muenster and cheddar which is breaded and deep fried and then topped with lettuce, tomato and shake sauce. This is their vegetarian option but you can also add a beef patty to it if you like. This is one of the burgers I had in NYC, it was nicer than I remember, probably because I didn’t get for take out this time. The cheese stuffed mushroom was good, but not as good at the Smoke shack in my eye, though my girl Lizzy disagreed, this one was her favourite.

As I’m such a kind and devoted girl friend, I also picked up the Shack Burger (6,900) for TFB. He had neither the time or the inclination to stand in a queue for burgers but we thought we would treat him anyway. For a simple six dollar burger this was pretty up there, not amazing but good for what it is. Though I couldn’t help but think it was kind of like the love child of a McDonald’s quarter pounder and a Burger King whopper. If you could just walk in off the street and get one in 5 minutes then this would be the place to go, but with the queues like they are right now I’d suggest sticking with a whopper.

Potato wise, there are Fries (3,900) and the Cheese Fries (4,900). Honestly the cheese fries sucked, there was just a splatter of this vile yellow sauce on them, I’m not sure what it was made from but it sure didn’t taste like cheese. The fries themselves were fine but really not worth the five dollar price tag and the portion was quite small too, give me some maccy D’s fries any day of the week.

Between us we split a Black & White Shake (5,900). When our order arrived we were given the red bean by mistake, which was terribly upsetting, but they soon rectified the mistake. The black and white shake was alright but I honestly didn’t think it was anything special. It also didn’t seem that thick and actually melted very quickly, perhaps their ice cream machine was overworked but it was a bit shit if I’m being honest. I would rather spend the extra money on two burgers next time and forget the sides.

Shake Shacks other claim to fame is its concrete frozen custards. So I had to try the new Gangnam flavour (5,900). A single vanilla concrete mixed with jam, cookies, marshmallow, and soy bean powder. I was really looking forward to this but again, it was already half melted when it arrived. It tasted nice enough but again not good enough to justify the price. This is Seoul and there are hundreds of places selling pretty great shakes and ice creams on almost every street that you walk down. They are going to need to really up their game if they want to compete on more than a brand name recognition basis.

Overall I liked the burgers, they are certainly worth it, the fries and shakes not so much. While the queues are still monstrous I’d advise you to save time and pay a couple extra bucks and go to Gilbert or Left Coast. However once the queues have dissipated and you can walk straight in and order, they are great burgers for the price. If you do decide to wait in line, just be prepared and bring plenty of booze like we did.

Made – Brunch

Unless you live under a rock you have more than likely heard about the new Pokemon game, where you go on your own quest to catch as many of the little critters as possible. Well my life is also like that, though instead of looking for pretend animated characters, I’m looking for brunch spots. For some reason brunch seems to need to fill far more criteria than a simple lunch ever would. For starters they have to have a western style menu filled with egg and carb heavy options, secondly, strong and reviving cocktails, and thirdly, outside seating. It is rare to come across in place in Seoul that manages to satisfy all three,  but thankfully Made just about does. Whenever I am in Sinsa, it is the only place I like to go to. Its location in between Apgujeong and Garosugil makes it the perfect place to stop and take a rest and watch the world go by. The large open doors give you the feeling of being outside while still being very close to the air conditioning. The best part is that they serve brunch all day everyday, with an extra special bunch menu on weekends. (more…)
